2020 Calves

It sure has been an interesting year...  We have had more family time which has been good and have been working hard on a great set of calves.  I will follow up with a few more pics but here are a couple of highlights:

Soggy Balmoral Oaks Eagle daughter.  Cow is by Saskvally Warrior so lots of Canadian breeding.

Super stout steer by DMH Maverick.  Dark roan and ready to show.  Look for more pics of Mav calves, really have a nice set.

Sweet heifer calf here!  Thermal Energy back to a young daughter of our big bull TS Ben Cartwright.  She has two shots of Bonanza and it worked out!  We went back and used twice as much TE at breeding time!  Check back for more pics of this girl and other salty heifer calves.

2019 Calves

The 2019 calf crop was pretty salty!!  It did lean a little more towards the bull end of the spectrum.  Here are a few snapshots of the crop

Bull calf we are keeping.  He's out of a cow we bought in the Minnesota State Sale from Doug Bruns.  He's a JDMC Standout times Big Sky momma.  Double bred Bonanza!

He's pretty thick!
Here's the other bull we are keeping.  DMH Cherry Fillet back to a Saskvalley Warrior daughter.  Soggy red and polled!

TS Ben Cartwright times Deerhorn Fresh Prince.  She was sold to Kaitlyn Rux. Thanks Kaitlyn!!
Here's a Fall calving heifer back to DMH Maverick.  We have 15 calves out of him and they all came easy and are pretty stout.  Tough Fall with the weather but they seemed to push through it.

We moved all of our Red Angus females to the Fall herd.  I also own a Regulator Son from Nordlund Stock Farm with Rob Tate and Dean Taylor.  Here's the oldest calf out of him.  Her mother is out of an NBAR Hamley son.

Busy Summer!!

It was a very busy summer!!  It started out with Pre-school Graduation for Brenden.
It was his idea to wear the tie!! I'm told he graduated with honors!

The next venture was T-Ball
If you can't pick it up from the picture he's all left handed!
We then let the genie out of the bottle for Brenden's show career with some showpigs from Steve and Jill Resler.  Tiana added a couple of gilts to the mix too.
People breaking pigs with little sister and dottie looking on!

Summer ditch walking!
At High Honors comeback show with big sister!

Cousins hanging out!
Good day at Minnesota State Fair Jr. Barrow Show

Hanging with the barrows down in Austin at the NBS

Great big ribbons at the National Barrow Show!

The summer came and went with school starting.  A big day for Loralei….preschooler in the house!
With her Elsa dress on Loralei didn't look back on the first day of pre-school!

2018 Heifer Calf Crop

Hope the winter season has been treating everyone well!  It looks like the cold and snow are settling in for a normal winter.  I was very fortunate to be able to connect with a cattlemen from North Dakota this past Fall and market all but one of my spring born Shorthorn heifers as well as a couple of Fall 2017 heifers.  I did want to post some pictures of them as I am very proud of what we produced.

Most of the calves were sired by TS Ben Cartwright.  You can see an updated picture of him on the sires page.

Because of the sale I didn't have any females to consign to the Minnesota State Shorthorn Sale.  We do have a nice set of Fall 2018 purebred heifers if anyone is interested.

2018 Cattle Offering

Normally I would be posting pictures of bred and open heifers we were consigning at the Minnesota Shorthorn Sale.  This past year was very successful in terms of marketing females so I didn't have many open heifers to make into bred heifers!  Good problem to have!  We do have some 2017 born  heifer calves mostly sired by TS Ben Cartwright (Bonanza Son)  Here are some examples:

Ben C. times Fresh Prince
Ben C. times 80c
We also have a nice set of Fall born heifer calves out of a bull which originated with Haumont Shorthorns in Nebraska.  They are still on the cow so I will post pictures later.

KAMILAROI MEAT PACKER H04

BSF 106Y Miss Packer (x4234827)
Meat Packer out of a Prince of Jazz daughter
Along with Donnelly Shorthorns and Bollum Family Shorthorns we purchased the U.S. semen rights on Meat Packer.  We will be having calves out of him the end of March 2016.  Semen is available so bring your tanks to the 2016 Minnesota Shorthorn Sale!!

2016 State Sale Entry

We ended up having to scratch our bred heifer from the 2016 sale.  The vet figures that she ate some bad feed and ended up with an infection in her mouth.  The swelling went down but she still has a small hard spot on her jaw.  I do not feel right putting her in the sale.

BSF 035X Gayle 419B

She does look good and I do have two half sisters to her I would be willing to sell all bred to DMH Cherry Fillet due the end of March 2016.

2015 Bred Heifer Offering

The chart speaks for itself.    The plus females are like peas in a pod.  All out of the same Norseman King son and solid Shorthorn Mamma's.  Most of them are solid red with a couple showing some roan.  I am asking $2800 for them in December with the price going up as they get closer to calving and we have more feed invested.

The purebred Red Angus is a solid female but we decided to breed her Shorthorn as we have been so happy with the cross.

I will be putting one of the purebred Shorthornns in the Mn Shorthorn Sale and have them priced higher than the plus heifers.  Let me know if you have any questions.

2015 North Star Classic - Valley City ND

Once again we made the trip to Valley.  Good weather and good times T showed two plus heifers.  The pic is of one of our consignments to the 2015 Mn Shorthorn Sale - March 8, 2015 at Simon Arena in Cannon Falls MN.  She's a March 2014 Hardcore (maine) out of a white Prince of Jazz female. Broke and ready to go and should get 'bluer' as she ages!!

2014 Dakota County Fair

Purebred Simmental bull calf.  Class winner prospect calves.
The Dakota county fair was here and gone for 2014.  Tiana had a really nice fair starting out with the cow/calf and feeder calf show.  Her bull calf won his class and she competed well in showmanship.  She then had the beef show with her two heifers and Shorthorn plus steer.  She ended up 10th overall with her steer and 12th with her Simmental heifer.  The next day she had the swine show where she really shined!  Champion breeding gilt, reserve champion market gilt, reserve interview and reserve showmanship plus a class winner with her lightweight cross barrow.  She's headed to state fair with her steer and will also compete in the Jr. Barrow show and FFA/open class beef weekend.  After that here comes school!
