Minnesota State Sale Entries

I finally got the pics taken and I didn't even have the snow or cold to blame!  Here they are:

BSF 7092 ROSABELL 004X ( x4175074) This dark roan purebred female is bred to Prince of Jazz for a Late March 2012 calf.  She is a different kind of pedigree with her being out of our herd bull Absolute Power (see sires page for pic and pedigree) and her mother is a first calf heifer out of the Haumont program in Broken Bow Nebraska.  She is as soggy and easy keeping as she looks and is packed with maternal power.

BSF 1130 SHANIA 031X  (*xAR52666) This is our first offering of what we hope will be more to come, a really solid Shorthorn Plus bred female.  She is also due in Late March 2012 to the calving ease specialist JR Conquest.  This female stems from our former herdsire Deerhorn Red Prince 707T and a purebred Red Angus cow who is a direct daughter of Holden Hi Ho 574 and a complete tank in her own right.  Shania is the right kind with plenty of growth, muscle and extremely easy keeping.

Look for the catalog online in early March at mnshorthorn.com .  I will try and get more pics closer to the sale.  Feel free to contact me if you are looking for more information.

North Star Classic

Its been an excellent summer and a beautiful fall.  I have been kind of slacking on posting but managed to get a photo at a recent show.  We made the trip once again to Valley City, North Dakota.  Here's a pic of Tiana with one of the heifers purchased in the Damar sale this fall.  I will be posting some of our Minnesota  State Shorthorn Sale set for March of 2012 consignments later this month.  The plan is to consign two bred heifers due the end of March with one purebred and the other a shorthorn plus.  Enjoy the pic of this April born Simmental heifer:

Show Pig video

Take a look at the video clip of the sale pigs.

2011 Showpigs for Sale

Take a look at these Ladies.  They are weighing in that 60-70 pound range and are both out of early Feb. litters.  I know they are the last ones we have, I think the quality ran really deep.  Click the boar's name in the previous post to take a look at them.

Bred females continued...

We have calved in most of the bred heifers with only TLF Audry and BSF Springtime 936w remaining.  The calves from the heifers and our older cows look great.  We are very excited to get them turned out on grass and get some pics posted of the new babies.

Show pig season

Show Pig Offering...
We are very excited about this year's crop of show pigs.  Thanks to the purchase of a couple of bred females we were able to wean off two litters.  We have had some traffic and have sold all of the barrows but have several gilts available.  The pigs are sired by Hot Shot  a cross boar with a tremendous amount of power out of a pure Yorkshire sow and Ice Age   who is a massive York boar times a belted sow.  The boars are housed at Genetic Edge in Ohio and click on the boar's name to see a photo.  The remaining pigs are first come first serve so feel free to call or e-mail me.

Other news
We did have some misfortune with our Cain bred boar learning that he looked like a sound breeder but in the end he must have had semen quality issues and was unable to sire any pigs so we ended up culling him from the herd.  We do have a replacement herdboar who I call "Spuds" as he is a blue butt with gray over one eye.  Look for show pigs next spring and a photo later this spring.

We are also in the process of breeding our york gilts for summer litters.  The belted sow we farrowed in February was bred to a Hamp boar from North Iowa Boar Stud, Thanks Bill.

Take care everyone and good luck getting pigs.

Minnesota State Sale 2011 Results

It was a beatuful day for a sale at Simon Arena in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.  The cattle looked great with a few less numbers than last year and it translated into an excellent sale with averages well above past years.

We spoke with a lot of folks about our sale entries and really appreciate all of the interest.  Look for us for your needs in 2012!

Our entries sold well with the Lot 30 bred heifer selling to Darold Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye, MN who is a repeat buyer of ours having bought the top seller in the State sale in 2008, Thanks Darold!

The Lot 34 bred sold to Jeff Bock of Spring Valley, WI.  Jeff is new to the Shorthorn breed and was very impressed with how the sale was conducted and is excited to start raising Shorthorns.  Thank you Jeff!

We also have a set of bred females we are selling off of the farm.  Take a look at the following table and send me an e-mail if you are interested.

We also have a nice set of open females for sale as well.

Minnesota State Sale 2011

We are consigning two bred heifer entries in the State Sale to be held at Simon Arena in Cannon Falls, MN promptly at noon.  Please refer to the Minnesota Shorthorns link on our web page for more details.
 Lot 30: BSF 814 Springtime 935w
Just like the footnote in the catalog describes this Alta Cedar Signature daughter doesn't dissappoint.  Her look is the same as her Byland Dazzler mother.  She's save for a March 2011 calf to Shadybrook Scotty (you can see a daughter we are showing in previous posts).  I will admit both heifers would look better in warmer weather (temp at picture time was well below zero) but it show's the hardiness of the cattle.  Actual birth weight - 79#.
Lot 34: BSF Kammy Secret 914w
I wanted to put another solid red bred on the sale and Kammy Secret is so similar to our other entry its kind of hard to tell them apart!  Her sire DF Victor as many daughters in production not only in Farmington, MN for the Donnelly's but for the JR Ranch in Washington State.  We decided to ultrasound this year when preg checking and she is safe with a heifer calf to out heifer bull BSF Blue Ultra 917W (*x4161724).  A very solid package to buy with confidence a solid red female safe with a heifer calf.  Actual birth wt 90#.

Springtime on left and Kammy on right.
